General
Weekend Warrior was an unofficial moniker given to assigned passenger locomotives to lent to freight train duties. With less passenger or commute trains running on the weekend, locomotives assigned at Bayshore (SF) or San Jose or Oakland would make exotic runs leading freight trains. Roseville to Oakland or San Jose to San Luis Obispo were the most common runs and the safest. Keep in mind that these units needed to be serviced by 4 am Monday morning. Sometimes these units worked east to Sparks NV and were tardy making it west to Roseville and or Oakland. Heads would roll for messing up the commute. By 1985, Cal Train took over and former passenger power was free to roam everywhere.
