| Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, around two o'clock on 17 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5898 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5898 was constructed in March of 1951. They're pulling the "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" ~ sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society ~ past the Hollidaysburg Passenger Station on its way to Duncansville to climb the Allegheny Mountains via the Muleshoe Curve, pass through the tunnels under Gallitzin, and then head back down the Eastern Slope and stop at the Horseshoe Curve for excursion passengers to visit PRR K-4S "Pacific" #1361. In this photo, the tracks occupy the original right-of-way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad (1834-1854) between Hollidaysburg (to the right) and Duncansville (to the left).
